On October 24th 2019, a ceremony was held to warmly welcome Professor Xu Qiyu, former deputy director with the rank of senior colonel of the Institute for Strategic Studies at the National Defence University of the People's Liberation Army, to join Taihe Institute. A number of senior researchers and council members of the Taihe Institute attended the event.
Professor Xu Qiyu is now a senior fellow at the National Strategy Institute, Tsinghua University. His research interests include Sino-American Relations, European Security, Maritime Security, and Classic Strategic Studies. He was successively appointed member of “Young Leaders Forum” (YLF) and the expert group on foreign affairs at the Ministry of National Defence of the People’s Republic of China, and selected as a member of the 11th All-China Youth Federation. He is the author of Fragile Rise: Grand Strategy and the Fate of Imperial Germany, and The Shaping of the Empire. The copyright of Fragile Rise: Grand Strategy and the Fate of Imperial Germany was bought by Harvard University and the book was published in the United States in 2017.
Professor Xu has made great achievements in the research field of security policy, and has unique viewpoints towards Sino-American Relations. The joining of Professor Xu will further enhance the research strength of Taihe Institute in the field of security policy, and will provide a new angle towards the development of Sino-American Relations in the new era.
