On June 15, 2023, Dr. Yang Liuchang joined Taihe Institute (TI) as a senior fellow.
Yang holds a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Xiamen University and a Ph.D. from Minzu University of China. Yang previously served as the Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the China Writers Association and the Division Chief of the Ethnic Culture Department of the former Ministry of Culture. He also served as the Deputy Director-General of the Publicity Department, Director-General of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Department, Director-General of the Secretary Department, and Director-General of the General Affairs Department under the Taiwan Work Office of the CPC Central Committee. Yang also led as the Secretary-General and the Office Director in Macao SAR of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, and the Director-General of the Department of Taiwan Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR.
Yang has extensive experience in Taiwan affairs, and is well-versed in the history and politics of Taiwan and cross-strait relations. He was stationed in Hong Kong and Macao three times and understands local affairs. He is also the author of A Legend: The Spread and Influence of Yiguan Dao in Taiwan, a religion theory monograph, and many works on Taiwan affairs, literature and art, and religious studies. Yang has been recognized as an outstanding Communist Party member and an excellent young cadre in the central government, and has been honored with the title of outstanding civil servant and the third-class merit citation.
Dr. Yang Liuchang's expertise and experience will further enhance TI's research capabilities in terms of cross-strait relations, Hong Kong affairs, and neighborhood security issues.
